Tudor & Ratcliff Founded

After graduating from Harvard, James Ernest “Jimmy” Ratcliff returned to Louisiana to partner with his friend and former Louisiana College classmate, Simon Tudor. The two decided to form a general contracting business, Tudor & Ratcliff General Contractors.

A Strong Start

The new company endured the struggles of the Great Depression to become a major force in the Louisiana construction industry. Throughout the 1930s, Ratcliff & Tudor built some of the state’s finest public schools, courthouses, and other public works projects.

During World War II, Tudor & Ratcliff operated as a builder of the United States military training facilities throughout Louisiana.

Post War Changes

After the war, the Tudor & Ratcliff partnership dissolved, and Jimmy Ratcliff formed J.E. Ratcliff, General Contractors in 1946. The company moved forward into the post-war years with continued work as a premier builder of public buildings throughout Central Louisiana.

Robert T. Ratcliff, Sr. joined his father’s business, adding another generation of committed construction service professionals from the Ratcliff family.

Expanding the Firm

Robert “Rob” T. Ratcliff, Jr. joined the firm and is the current president. Rob expanded the firm with offices in Baton Rouge. Additional companies which work in tandem have been formed to create a family of companies that focus on all parts of the building process.

To expand Ratcliff’s service territory, Robert T. Ratcliff, Sr., Max Young, and Rob Ratcliff formed a sister company, Ratcliff Constructors, in Dallas, Texas.
